Class of 1962. Attended 11th and 12th grades at Clover Bend. Just found this web site and looking forward to exploring it. Received an email from Janice McEntire today giving the reunion dates which I hope to attend. So, I decided to Google Clover Bend and see what I could find. Was not aware that reunions were taking place each year.
Suggestion: Please label the photos with names—highly unlikely I'll recognize anyone by photo after 50 years. It would also be great if you could post a photo large enough to read of each class graduation photo from the auditorium.
Great web site!
I attended school at Clover Bend from 1st grade through mid-9th grade (1955- 1964) when my family moved out of the school district. I would really like to see a picture of the grade school building that existed at that time. I visited Clover Bend today and noticed that the building I attended is no longer there.
Most of my summers were spent coming to Clover Bend from Texas, I tell you, from the "adventures" I had in those summers, well, it could have could have been a lifetime. I will always remember that time, I am only 26 now, but the years in Clover Bend will be in my memory forever.
Rosie, you have done a great job!! I enjoyed everything very much. Bill
I graduated from CBHS in 1961. I have two Sisters and a Brother that also graduated from Clover Bend. I attended our 50 year class reunion this past Memorial day weekend. I like the 50 Year Club stones placed under the bell tower. My attending the reunion brought back so many memories. I especially liked all the graduation pictures on the walls. That was the 1st reunion I had attended since I left. I have lived in Illinois since 1963 but have been back to Clover Bend several times during that period, but this was the 1st time I had been inside the main building since I left. I was sort of disappointed that the gym building was not open during the reunion. I did see the interior of the cafeteria which brought back a lot of memories.
My parents lived in the Clover Bend and Hopewell area for many years. I well remember living in the old house with the huge OAK tree in the front yard located just west of the Lance Phillips place. During some of that time while living there I worked in the Hopewell store when it was owned by Keith Arnold. Congratulations to everyone involved in the process of making the Historical Preservation Association happen. I visit the website on a regular basis. I hope to attend more Clover Bend reunions.
P.S. My wife (Gladys Tiffee Hibbard) is an alum of WRHS graduating in 1962. Her 50 year reunion will be held in 2012 which we plan to attend. She and her family lived in the Strangers Home Community. Her sister currently lives in their parents home.
I taught there from 1977-1981. This website is terrific and so well done; I have enjoyed it very much. Congratulations for having successful reunions every year. I am thankful that the school is a National Historic Site.
In answer to the questions of Carol Lay:
1. The Old Graduation Photos: Plans are in the works for restoring and preserving the photos; and it needs to be done soon or we will lose them. Ways to raise the money has been discussed. We should have an article on the web soon about this need and other needs.
2. Flood Damage: Yes, there was damage. The main building and the gym were okay. BUT, major damage was done to the Lunch Room; and the Home Econ. Building furniture was stored in the Lunch Room and most of it ruined. I think the Lunch Room had about 18 inches of water in it. The Farmstead Buildings and the caretaker's home had damage.
I graduated in 1972 from CBHS and enjoy keeping up on this site.
I was wondering what is being done to preserve all the old graduation photos that line the walls of the highschool? Did the school have any water damage due to the recent flooding?
Thank you for having this program. It is really nice seeing the school.\

What a great site!
My name is JoAnn LaMew, my fouth great grand father was Pierre Lemieux and Antoine Janis was my fifth. I am working on my family genealogy. i made a trip last spring to Clover Bend,to meet cousin's i had never met, Sue Briner, and Ron Williams. They so graciously took me on a tour of the area.
Many of the family are working on our family history. I have a few great stories, and hope to hear many more.
Thank you
JoAnn LaMew
My interest in the Clover Bend web site stems from a family named Davis coming to our farm near Senath, Missouri in either 1954 0r 1955 to pick cotton. In particular, a daughter, Helen Gayle Davis, was about my age and we struck up a small friendship. She graduated in 1955 and I graduated from Senath High School in 1956. We exchanges one or two letter and then I joined the Air Force in 1956.
A few years ago, I started visiting the Web sites (early ones) and located what her married names was. Using Internet search capabilities, I finally located where she lived in Texas. I called her and we had a nice conversation after lo these many, many years.
In addition to the why I am a visitor, I wish to commend all of those who have worked so hard to preserve the Clover Bend School properties. Not many schools of similar circumstances have been so preserved.
Thanks for helping me to find Gayle and for your outstanding web site.
Warm regards,
Joe Fritz
PS I lived in Imboden for my first 10 years, so I had heard about Clover Bend as a youngster.9
I moved to Alicia, Arkansas and started to school at Clover Bend when I was in the 2nd grade. I graduated at Clover Bend in 1962. I discovered this site when I was doing genealogy and discovered that my Grandmother and Grandfather were married at Clover Bend in 1890. My Grandmother Irena Thomas Koller would have been living at Clover Bend at the same time as Alice French. This web site and other web sites about Clover Bend are very impressive. I am thinking of attending the next reunion.
thanks a bunch!
I really enjoyed attending the 2010 reunion. Thanks to the reunion committee for the wonderful idea of releasing ballons in honor of our family members and friends who have passed. I know Mother, Ruth Alyce (Boopy) Benn loved and cherished her extended family of Clover Bend classmates. It was a privilege to attend and I wish you all the best.
Class of 1980 and I have a lot of fond memories.
Thanks to all of you for your hard work restoring the Clover Bend School buildings. Your hard work shows because it all looks great.
Maybe you could post information about the 2010 reunion, like the date and schedule of events etc.
